A Perfect Day at Starlight
A 10.30 start on court meant a very leisurely breakfast outside on the terrace overlooking the beautiful infinity pool and looking out across the stunning Antalya coastline. The buffet at breakfast offers everything from freshly baked breads, fruits, cereals and yoghurt, freshly cooked omelettes through to continental meats and cheeses, and the more exotic Asian choices for those who enjoy a bit more sugar or spice in the mornings.
A leisurely stroll over to the courts and everyone is refreshed and ready for the first coaching session of the day. We start with a fun warm-up, mixing in with friends and meeting new people from some of the other clubs. It’s a great ice-breaker and there’s lots of laughter and smiles as everyone gets to know each other. The clay courts are impressively maintained and you’d be pushed to get too many dodgy bounces as they’re constantly watered and rolled. A quick fuel stop at the court-side station where we arm ourselves with a few sweet treats, water and banana’s just to top up the energy levels as the sun starts to warm things up.
We head for an al fresco lunch next to the shady waterfall where we find an abundance of freshly grilled fish and meats and mouth watering salads plus a few local delicacies including local savoury pancakes hand cooked over a hot stone. Simply divine!
We retire to the beach, which is immaculate with thatched parasols and sun loungers linked by decked pathways to save the burn of the sand on our feet. There’s a selection of fresh juices and water at stations dotted around the loungers which is just perfect to go and help yourself from.
4pm and the temperature has cooled for perfect match play conditions. We mix in and rotate partners after each match which is timed and organised impeccably by the coaches. The coaches all mix in and inject even more fun factor as well as some great tips as we get stuck in.
We retire to the terrace next to the infinity pool for some well earned beers and chat over the days’ activities as the sun goes down. For dinner we opt for the Mongolian BBQ which is part of our package. A huge array of fresh meats, fish and vegetables and fresh sauces are mixed together and then cooked by the chef on the huge hot plate which throws huge sparks and flames skywards, adding to the atmosphere and the mouthwatering food which finds its way to our table.
Our evening entertainment – some of the group relax in the bar and the rest of us head to the on-site bowling alley. Three of the Coaches head up the teams and the games begin. Some of us haven’t bowled in years and we’d forgotten how much fun it was, especially with the added rivalry between the coaches who really can’t do enough to accommodate us all and get everyone involved in the fun. After the bowling extravaganza there’s live music, dancing in the nightclub and a huge white themed party to choose from for those who still have the energy! A few people are somehow feeling peckish again and head to the restaurant for coffee and desert. Some great friendships are emerging, and this is just the first day – our holiday with Sport:Away has certainly started on a high!
